Louis Taylor – Fine Art Valuers and Auctioneers since 1877 – are a long established Staffordshire firm. Throughout its history there have been some memorable auctions - many important sales of local Country Houses and auctions of the effects of several famous personalities.
The sale of the effects of Clarice Cliff, the well known Art Deco Ceramics Designer took place in the seventies and the sale of some of Sir Stanley Matthews Sporting Trophies and Memorabilia together with his furniture and effects was organised in 2000. This Auction took place at the Britannia Stadium home of Stoke City Football Club – Here Stanley Matthews Number 7 Shirt worn when he played in the Great Britain and Ireland Xl in 1955 sold for £7,820.
The following year Louis Taylor achieved a world record price for a Royal Doulton Character Jug (which still stands to-day). The Character Jug of Sir Stanley Matthews in a Special Colourway was one of a Limited Edition of only three – the hammer fell at £32,200!
